Norwalk Tower

The renovated Norwalk Tower, completed in 2014, provides affordable housing for low-income seniors aged 62 and older, with residents living below 50% of the area median income. The project includes the acquisition and rehabilitation of the tower, which now offers 102 studio apartments and 83 one-bedroom/one-bath homes, along with updated community spaces, common areas, and laundry facilities.

Central to the $12 million renovation are several sustainable features, including a rooftop-mounted solar thermal system designed to preheat water before it enters the boiler system. This 36-panel system feeds into a 15,000-gallon holding tank, enhancing energy efficiency. The renovation also replaced over 2,000 outdated light fixtures with LED lighting, which offers long-term benefits such as zero UV emissions and the absence of toxic chemicals. Additional sustainable upgrades include the installation of regenerative elevators that collect and recycle energy, as well as high-efficiency windows, contributing to a more environmentally friendly and comfortable living environment for residents
